As a new mom, I knew what I thought was cute on other kids, but because of my limited expertise in all things baby & child, I had no clue what I really wanted for my own children. Then, my husband and I discovered we were having a boy and the overwhelming options of clothing and accessories was suddenly put in a very distinct corner of all things blue, brown, yellow, and green. Bugs, dirt, dinosaurs, and various farm equipment became the ever-present theme on all things baby, at least for what we could afford.
Since then, we've had another baby, a boy, and my tastes have become very specific. Call me crazy, but I think that baby clothes & accessories should not equal the price of a private college tuition. In my mind, clothes should never cost an arm & a leg and they should be a reflection of a part of ourselves. Clothes should be fun, while also practical.
A lot of people ask how I got started sewing and to be perfectly honest, I knew what I wanted to make, found a pattern, some awesome fabric, and went to it. I didn't take any classes and only chose to go it alone because I'm stubborn like that. It was a painstakingly slow process of doing and undoing, but by the time all was said and done, I'd made a little something for myself while discovering that I absolutely, without a doubt, loved to sew and thus began my obsession with sewing and in turn, all things handmade.
The next question people ask is where on Earth do I find the time and for that I have a good answer as well...I MAKE TIME! Life is short so why not do what you love! As an aside, one day I hope this will turn into all that I do for our family. So know that by buying into the Ellye-K Designs brand, you're helping me discover my dream one stitch at a time!
